To the entire TRC Women’s
Team – you all made me very proud at this regatta. There was so much teamwork, rigging, unrigging, moving oars,
shoes, and cheering on your teammates.
It was great to watch. All
of you also conducted yourselves with the highest level of sportsman like
conduct, and will leave a positive impression with the Racing Officials for the
future! A special thanks to our
coxswains(Sarah H, Sydney, Ryann & Abbie) who kept cool heads, and got
their crews to where the needed to be in a timely manner.
WV8+:Heat:With wild winds blowing, and
the trailer getting parked, adrenalin was pumping as the varsity women got
their boat together and headed out to the race course. They returned to the dock with
frustration in their eyes (rough first 500), but determination to work it out
in the 4+’s. Despite the
conditions, they still pulled out a sub 8min time of 7:53.6 in their heat and
qualified for the final.
Final:For some, their 3rd
2000m race. Best part, they all
came off the water talking about how much better the race was than the
Heat. Better set, more length, and
Big Daddy’s all the way to the finish line. The 1st & 2nd place boats were .4
seconds apart, the the rest of the pact all within 30 seconds of each
other. The women came in 7th
with a time of 7:53.8. Nice work
ladies!
WV4+:Right back out on the race
course after the 8+ heat, these ladies did a fantastic job staying right in the
middle of the pack. All returned
to the dock with positive comments about the race & they looked strong and
together at the finish. They came
in 4th out of the 7 boats in their heat, but got edged out of the final
by .4 seconds with a time of 8:24.4.
W2V4+:After waiting …what seemed
like forever (!). They finally got
to launch 1hour after their scheduled race time. After a screaming fast start, they couldn’t quite hold off
the pack. All the boats spread out
in this race with about 10 seconds between each one. It’s tough to race with that much spread, but they looked
fantastic coming across the finish line with a time of 8:44.8. (5th
place). After discussing the
results, they all agreed to focus on what they really liked about the race (the
first 1000) and move forward. Good
attitude!
WNov8+:The very first time you are
on a race course there is a huge learning curve. These ladies had 5 rowers in the boat who had NEVER raced
before. They did a very
respectable job, with a good time of 8:51.7 (7th place). Now that they’ve got their first race
under their belt, I’m looking forward to seeing them improve their time in the
future! Way to go ladies!
WNov4+:This boat had such a
wonderful attitude when they got off the water – they all agreed that they did
the best they could do and were proud of themselves. That is a big part of rowing, growing as individuals and a
team along the way. They were
placed in the faster of the 2 heats (with 4 boats sub 9 minutes), and finished
6th with a time of 9:50.8 well ahead of the 7th place
boat. Nice work ladies!
**Parents/rowers, please keep
in mind that you can not compare times from one race to another w/out a margin
of error. Wind, water currents,
and the starters thumb all create changing conditions.**

Results for Head of the Lafayette – Fall 2009
What a great weekend! We want to send our THANKS to all the attending
parents who helped make everything run so smoothly. The food(a big
job!), driving vans, chaperones, hauling kids shoes, oars and anything
else the coaches needed - you were all fantastic!!
The rowers have a lot to be proud of - they really worked as a team,
and we were honored to be their coaches!
The regatta race course was altered due to wind, so the results are
for appx 2700 meters, a shorter course with less wind and waves.
Results:
WJrNov2x: (Alexandra and Vanessa) - They did a great job handling the wind and chop in a small boat. Despite all the weather elements they still came in 1st! : )
MJr8+ (C:Chris, Brian M,Will, Taylor, Brian G, Soren, Collin, Michael, Robbie) 3rd place by just 3 seconds with a time of 9:50. These guys always work really hard and can really move the boat!
WJr4+ (c:Hillary, Kylie, Meredyth, Julia, Claire) This boat came in 2nd despite last minute line-ups changes and one rower on the "wrong" side. Great job girls!
WJrNov4+: (c:Josh, Aubrey, Harper, Kayla, Steele)
The novice team had to do the 'linup-shuffle' this weekend due to
illness and injury on the team. This boat got lucky, and got a new
coxswain, Josh - who did a fantastic job getting the girls to work
really hard! They took a strong 2nd place with a time of 13:41. That time placed them 4th over all for both novice and varsity junior women's 4+'s -
WAY TO GO LADIES!!!
WJr8+ (c:Hillary, Kylie, Meredyth, Aubrey, Claire, Vanessa, Julia, Kayla, Alexandra) This boat also had some last minute line-ups changes and one of the novice girls stepped up to row with the varsity girls. Thank you Aubrey. These girls should be proud of a 4th place finish especially since almost all of them had to get off the water from their 4+'s race and go straight over to get hands on for the 8+ race.
MJr4+ (C:Chris V, Brian M, Will, Taylor, Brian) The MJr4+ had a strong 2nd place finish despite the collision the Hampton Roads 4+ and near miss with one of the unforgiving bouys. Time: 10:43
MJrLt4+ (C:Austin, Soren, Collin, Michael, Robbie) With a time of 11:11 the MJrLt4+ came in second. Super work! They had a borrowed coxswain from First Colonial Crew and were great at welcoming him and definitely thanking him for helping us!
MJrNov4+:
During the rower shuffle we ended up with 2 MJrNov4+'s, both had never
rowed together before Friday, and they both did an amazing job
adapting to the new lineups.
Boat 'A': (c:Harper, Josh, Conner, Brad, Daniel)
2nd place, with a time of 12:32 - They had a great row despite the
water conditions, and ended up faster than 5 other men's junior 4+'s
including 3 of the varsity 4+'s.
Boat 'B': (c:visitor, Ryan, Steele, Nick, Christian)
4th place, with a time of 13:39. This boat also reported have a great
row, they had a 'ringer' coxswain from another junior team helping
out. You might have noticed that this was a 'mixed' crew of boys and
girls - yet they still managed a faster time than another men's
varsity 4+. Great work!!
We've really seen some serious growth in the abilities of our novice
team - they should be very proud of themselves! They often compete
against novice rowers who have had up to 6 more months of experience -
they will be a force to be reckoned with next season!
We had an overall 2nd place team finish of all the junior programs at Head of the Lafayette. Our strong showing at Head of the James made us a team to beat at Head of the Lafayette. All of the hard work you are putting in at practice is paying off and being recognized by other teams. KEEP IT UP!

Results for Head of the James – Fall 2009
Congratulations to all our AWESOME rowers!! We were a force to be reckoned with at the regatta, and several rowers came up and asked who we were, and where we came from, and made comments about how good the team was. We were so proud of you all! We also wanted to recognize how well you all worked together to get the trailer unloaded/loaded get boats rigged, and support each other carrying oars and cheering - it was great to see.
Men's Novice 4+:
1. Christchurch - 19:25
2. River City - 21:00
3. TRC - 21:36
4. Virginia Beach - 25:39
Our boys took 3 minutes off their time, and looked great coming across the finish line. The novice men's team is really working hard to get stronger and faster - way to go guys!!
Women's Novice 4+:
1. Virginia Beach B - 21:13
2. Notre Dame - 21:26
3. TRC - 22:37
4. Christchurch - 22:39
5. Virginia Beach A - 25:03
The ladies novice team had some challenges to overcome this regatta - and they did it with grace. Unfortunately they weren't all 100%, and we had a shoe tear right out of the boat during the beginning of the race - yet they still beat their time by 2 1/2 minutes, and they were right with the top 2 novice women's boats. They looked fantastic finishing the race, and they should be very proud of how well they did!
Mixed Novice 8+
1. TRC - 21:10
2. Juniper - 22:44
Our novice mixed 8+ showcased just how much our rowers have learned in the 7 weeks that they have been rowing. They looked amazing as they crossed the finish line over 90 seconds ahead of the other 8+. Their novice coxswain Christian dealt with equipment issues and delay at the starting line, and kept his crew focused. Way to go NOVI !!! It has been such a joy to watch them all improve this season - they are a great bunch of kids!
Men's Varsity 4+:
1. TRC A - 18:27
2: TRC B - 18:57
3. River City - 19:03
4. Virginia Boat Club - 19:21
5. Juniper - 20:40
What an amazing job from the varsity men! Rowers from the other teams were checking the results for the 4+’s race and lamenting racing TRC in the men’s varsity 8+! All the hard work is definitely paying off. What a great race and how about TRC taking first and second!
Women's Varsity 4+:
1. Virginia Boat Club - 20:58
2. TRC - 21:21
3. Freedom - 21:43
4. Juniper - 22:37
5. Virginia Beach - 23:53
The women’s varsity 4+ had a fast race and looked great crossing the finish line. What an excellent showcase of all their hard work! They passed four boats as they raced actually catching a boat from the race before them! Great job girls!
Women's 2x:
1. Juniper - 20:42
2. Virginia Beach - 21:09
3. TRC - 21:48
4. Freedom - 23:59
The women’s double steered a great course coming down the race course. This definitely gave them an edge as they raced. This double had only rowed together a few times before and one of them just learned to scull two weeks ago! Way to hang with those other doubles!
Men's Varsity 8+:
1. TRC - 16:52
2. Virginia Beach - 18:30
3. Patriot A - 19:42
4. Patriot B - 21:19
All that needs to be said is WOW! 1 minute 38 second separation between 1st and 2nd !
Outstanding performance from TRC! Keep it up!
