Off-Season Training

Off-season training provides athletes with the opportunity to improve their overall fitness and flexibility, rowing erg times, and rowing technique.  This program is open to all TRC athletes. It is recommended, but is not required.

Specifics on schedule, location, and cost - along with the associated registration links - will be provided as these training periods approach.

WINTER TRAINING

Winter Training is a key to TRC's success in the spring! Many of the teams we compete against impose mandatory winter training, and if we want to beat them, we can't wait until February to start.

We can't stress enough how important these practices are to our success in the spring.  Many of us are looking to medal at Southeast Regionals or even qualify for National Championships.  We can't do that without these practices.  Everyone is encouraged to participate!

2023/4 Winter training runs from December 4th, 2023 - February 9th, 2024 (with a possibility of extending if needed).

HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES:

The options for high school athletes are 3 days/week  (M/W/F) or 5 days/week (M/T/W/TH/F).  You must be enrolled in the M/W/F group in order to enroll in the supplemental T/Th group (there is no 2 days/week option for high school athletes.)

Monday: 3:30 pm-6:00 pm
Wednesday: 3:30 pm-6:00 pm
Friday: 3:30 pm-6:00 pm

High School Supplemental Days (5 days/week option):

Tuesday: 3:30 pm-6:00 pm
Thursday: 3:30 pm-6:00 pm

MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETES:

The only option is  2 days/week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  This group includes middle school boys and girls.

Tuesday: 3:45 pm-6:00 pm
Thursday: 3:45 pm-6:00 pm

For Middle School athletes, the number one requirement to participate is maturity.  The workouts will be tough and will consist of at least 50% erg work, but we will adjust the erg work to the Middle School group.  We need to be able to count on everyone following instructions, being self-sufficient, and working hard during these practices.  If any middle school parents have any questions or concerns about the intensity level of the workouts, feel free to email coach@trianglerowing.org.

SUMMER ROWING

Summer rowing practices are for current members who wish to row over the summer. We will practice 4 times a week for high school and 2 times per week for middle school. You do not need to row in the summer to be eligible to row in the fall season. The summer is designed to allow athletes to stay sharp throughout the summer break, and get an opportunity to try new boat types.

These will all be morning practices to avoid the heat, wakeboarders, and afternoon thunderstorms. We will be rowing in lots of different boats, but traditionally this is the perfect time for some rowers to learn to scull. We will be rowing in small boats as well as 8s and 4s. These are also great practices for working on our endurance training and technique in preparation for the fall season.

TRC middle school athletes who have completed a season of rowing are encouraged to join summer rowing. We will be doing many longer, endurance workouts even during middle school practices, so please make sure that your rower can handle these practices before signing up. If you have middle school rowing questions,  please reach out to the coaching staff.

We typically break the summer into 2 sessions for the athletes who may be away for part of the summer. Athletes are welcome and encouraged to sign up for both sessions.
