Join TRC for Erg-a-thon 2017!!
Interested in the Sport of Rowing? Come meet members of the largest and most successful rowing club in the Carolinas! The Triangle Rowing Club is holding an Erg-A-Thon Saturday March 25th starting at 7:30 am and lasting until Noon at Lake Wheeler Park in Raleigh, NC. Erging is dry land rowing and the rowers will each erg 10,000 meters to raise $10,000 for a new team oar shed.
Come experience the fun with music, a pancake breakfast, and a costume contest! With over 100 rowers participating, it will be a non-stop exciting event.
“We’ve experienced so much growth over the past 2 years and have outgrown our storage shed. Some of our oars and other equipment, plus all of our boats and coach boat engines have to be stored outside. It’s not an ideal situation when you want your equipment to last,” explained Will White, Head Coach of TRC.
“You’ll see 6 of our rowers who earned 6 gold medals and 1 bronze medal this February at the Midatlantic Erg Sp
rints, the largest regional competition of its kind in the US,” bragged Coach White, “so if you really want to see how to get the most out of a rowing machine, this is your chance.”
The Erg-a-thon will also be a great opportunity to meet the team, talk to the coaches, and find out more about rowing. Or, just come to cheer us on!
Rowing has become quite a popular sport in the South. The growth and success of TRC is reflected in this trend. “We had record-breaking seasons in 2016, sweeping golds at several regattas and winning our first medal at Head of the Hooch, the 2nd largest regatta in the nation. We expect our team growth and success to continue.”
Lake Wheeler is an ideal place to row and there is a proposal to create an even better Water Sports facility. We believe the success of the team will contribute to the improvement of the park and foster more opportunities for others to enjoy all types of water sports.
