Triangle Rowing Club fields men's and women's high school rowing teams (9th - 12th grade) at the novice and varsity levels. The novice designation applies to athletes in their first year of competitive rowing at this level.
High school athletes practice 5 days a week and compete in local, regional, and national competitive events.
Basic swimming ability is required, but no rowing experience is necessary.
Fall Season consists of head races where boats do not all start at the same time, instead they race against the clock in a time-trial format on a course that can vary in length, but is generally less than 5000 meters in length.
The fall season runs from the middle of August through the middle of November.
Note: Weekday practices will end earlier as the season progresses due to shorter days, daylight savings, and a shift in when Lake Wheeler closes (and gates are locked).
Regattas we attend during the fall season. Note that a subset of all high school crews may be selected for some events.

Triangle Rowing Club (TRC) wants to make the sport of rowing more accessible to our community. In support of that goal, we will promote the sport of rowing through outreach programs and need-based financial aid.
Our TRC Financial Assistance fund is an important factor in promoting enrollment by awarding eligible families the monetary boost needed to bring rowing costs within their reach. The club benefits by extending this helping hand, so we earnestly encourage those in need to apply. You can rely on discrete and thoughtful consideration.
We offer Financial Assistance two times a year: once at the start of the Fall/Winter seasons and again at the start of the Spring/Summer seasons. All members of the TRC Rowing Club program are eligible to apply for Financial Assistance funds, which cover part of the seasonal fees. Previous rowing experience is not required.
All applicants should wait until after decisions are made to register for the season in Sports Engine.
Financial Assistance can range from 25% to 75% of the total season's fees. The TRC Financial Assistance Committee makes awards based primarily on financial need. In addition, without disclosing the applicant’s financial information, the Committee asks for comments from the coaching staff about the rower’s attitude, commitment, participation, and if the rower has participated in past seasons. Also, the parent/guardian of financial aid recipients must satisfy the standard TRC volunteer requirement to maintain eligibility.
The application materials and review process are completely confidential. Applications are read only by the TRC Financial Assistance Committee. All committee members are committed to maintaining the confidentiality of the application and the decision-making process.
Remember, if you are applying for the TRC Tuition Reduction Scholarship, please wait until you receive a decision before signing up for the next TRC season. If you are approved you will be provided with a discount code that you will use during the registration process.
Spring Season consists of sprint races, where boats race side-by-side (usually up to 6 boats per race) on a course that is generally 2000 meters (or less) in length.
The spring season runs from the middle of February through the middle of May, but some crews may continue practicing and competing well into June if they qualify for Nationals.
Note: Weekday practices will end earlier at the start of the season due to shorter days, daylight savings, and when Lake Wheeler closes (and gates are locked).
Regattas we attend during the spring season. Note that a subset of all high school crews may be selected for some events.
